To install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express R2 manually, do the following:

Note.

 While installing the MS SQL Server 2008 Express R2 in the auto mode it is recommended to leave the offered settings in SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup unchanged.

Note.

If there is Microsoft SQL Server installation error during SQL Server 2008 installation, check recommendations at http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/440343/failure-to-install-sql-server-2008-service-pack-1-kb968369-error-code-84b30001. To solve this problem reboot your computer and restart Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express installation.
  1. Set the switch to the Yes, I want to install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express R2 position (see Installation of INTELLECT™ software as a Server  section).
  2. The MS SQL Server 2008 Express R2 setup box will be displayed.

    Note.

    There is the warning about compatibility issues while installing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express on OS Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012. To continue installation select the Run the program without getting help item.

  3. The Setup Support Rules dialog box will be displayed for identification and deletion of possible problem while installing MS SQL Server 2008 Express R2.

    1.  To view the detailed report about installation, click the Show details>> button (1).
    2. To rerun the installation, click the Re-run button (2).
    3. To close the dialog box, click the OK button (3).
  4. The Please wait while SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup processes the current operation message will be displayed.
  5. Then the Product Key dialog box will be displayed for specifying the product key of MS SQL Server 2008 R2.

    Note.

     This version of MS SQL Server 2008 Express R2 is free of charge and does not require activation.

  6. To go to the next box, click the Next> button (1).
  7. The License Terms box with license terms will be displayed.

    1. Confirm that you accept the license terms by setting the I accept the license terms checkbox (1).
    2. To go to the next box, click the Next> button (2).
  8. Install the system components required by MS SQL Server 2008 R2 by clicking the Install button in the opened Setup Support Files box (1).
  9. The Please wait while SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup processes the current operation message will be displayed.
  10. Set the support rules of MS SQL Server 2008 R2 in the Setup Support Rules dialog box.

    1. To view the detailed report about installation, click the Show details>> button (1).
    2. To go to the next box, click the Next> button (2).
  11. Then the MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Feature Selection setup dialog box will be displayed.

    1. Set the checkboxes in the Features: field next to the components that are to be installed (1).
    2. Specify the path to the installation directory in the Shared feature directory: field (2).
    3. To go to the next box, click the Next> button (3).
  12. The Instance Configuration dialog box will be displayed for setting the configuration of MS SQL Server 2008 R2 instatnce.

    1. Set the switch to the Named instance position and specify the SQLEXPRESS name of in the field (1).
    2. Specify the SQLEXPRESS  value for the instance identifier in the Instance ID field (2).
    3. Specify the path to the root directory for setting up the MS SQL Express in the Instance root directory field (3).
    4. To go to the next box, click the Next> button (4).
  13. The Disk Space Requirements box will be displayed.

    1.  The disk space requirements for setting up the selected functions of MS SQL Server 2008 R2 are specified in the Disk Usage Summary field (1).
    2. To go to the next box, click the Next> button (2).
  14. The Server Configuration box will be displayed, click the Next >  button to continue (1).
  15. The Database Engine Configuration box will be displayed, click the Next > button (1).
  16. The Error and Usage Reporting box will be displayed, for resending the errors and reports of using the SQL Server to Microsoft.

    1. Set the Send Windows and SQL Server Error Reports to Microsoft or your corporate report server. This setting only applies to services that run without user interaction checkbox checked (1).
    2. To go to the next box,  click the Next> button (2).
  17. The Installation Rules box will be displayed.

    1. To view the detailed report about installation, click the Show details>> button  (1).
    2. To go to the next box, click the Next> button (2).
  18. The Ready to Install box will be displayed.
  19. To run the installation process, click the Install button (1).
  20. The Please wait while SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup processes the current operation message will be displayed.
  21. The information about the installation process is displayed in the opened Installation Progress dialog box. When the installation is completed, click the Next > button (1).
  22. The Complete box will be displayed to provide information about the MS SQL Server 2008 R2 installation completion (1).
  23. To quit the installation process, click the Close button (2).

 The Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express R2 installation is now completed.
